Philly Problems: SEPTA
The perfect transportation balance between entertainment and disappointment.
The Suburban Station train announcer is more entertaining than the Price is Right. I feel like at any moment the next announcement will be
“Jessa! Welcome to Philadelphia. Your train is here… COME ON DOWN!”
Absolutely no prerecorded monotone announcements here. If you’re going to wait for a train, you might as well...

Philly Problems: Being a Giant's Fan
Ignorance is bless when it comes to being a Giants fan.
Since the disappearing phone act in Canada, I’ve been blissfully disconnected from ESPN updates (because my original iPhone complete with 2G and EDGE connection can’t handle any new apps - The OS must stand for Old School instead of operating system). In my mind the Giants were on top of the Division, beating the world,...

In Pursuit of the Triple Crown: Royal Canadian...
Here we go. The entire summer has been preparation for the next five days of racing - the countless hours on the river, the early mornings, the sleepless nights. It’s all for the next week of racing.
We can’t control what others have done in the same amount of time, but we can have confidence that our preparation is sufficient, that we are well prepared for battle.
We have the...

Philly Problems: No Giants Games...
Now that Victorino is a Dodger, it may be easier to try and make room in my baseball loving heart for the Phillies. But in the past year, the Giants filled the whole in my heart before any other team. And now, all I get are the depressing updates of shutouts, missed opportunities and losses. There’s nothing to watch, no announcing, no heart wrenching drama, only heart breaking loss.
And...

Today may have been an off day, but my roommate showing up with a Philly microbrew beer and a pint of local ice cream is sure the way to end it right.
An oatmeal stout with peanut butter maple tarragon ice cream, may just be my new favorite pairing.

It’s just two laps of steady state they said, it will be easy they said.

Philly Problems: Humidity
I never thought I’d see the day where I would be thankful for a 105* day in California. Dare I say I miss it?
Today’s weather is made miserable with the letter H(umidity) and the number 90. Outside feels like a sauna and your sweat doesn’t evaporate. Your hair has no chance of survival, and you better pray you remembered deodorant this morning.
Is it snowing yet? (Never...

In Pursuit of the Triple Crown: USRowing Club...
This weekend was unbelievably successful. The energy Vesper carried throughout the regatta was unparalleled. We went into the regatta knowing we were fast, the fastest in Philadelphia, but we had no gauge of how we would stack up to our out of state rivals. We came with 12 men, competing in a myriad of different events, while other programs have more than 20 bodies to choose from. A few remembered...
